new van chassis with log book

Post by mowogg »

What's the legality of advertising a new van chassis complete with a log book only? This is live on eBay at the moment

I understand you can install a new chassis to that van but not if it does not exist

I don't know about not caring, more a case of how would you know? These vehicles are so old now with so many rebuilds,

Should the club not be collating these numbers as a protection for members not buying a fraudulent car and saving someone buying a ringer :o

I have suggested a register of carless logbooks. Could be a worthwhile resource, and if published on the website a major disincentive to ringing. Possibly.
Very difficult with LCVs as no stamped in chassis number and very easy to mix and match. According to the DVLA you need more than a chassis to retain a registration...
cheers

All very well me & my number collecting - which would identify a few - but if only a small percentage of owners send me details to enter on the database, have to wonder whether they're THAT keen on getting their vehicle returned!

VIN stamping only real solution, though HOW it would be organised 100% is anyone's guess, some "official" from MMOC?

This goes round and round, and we know it's not right but we can't do much about it
The only good side is that certain Morris cars, that look and drive ok,are still on the road giving their owners pleasure. And the general public can see them and enjoy the old car thrill too.
In an ideal world none of this would happen, but I think we need to accept the inevitability of human greed.
Ultimately they can still be nice cars...like mongrels are usually nice dogs

I tend to agree with SteveClem.
Sadly there will occasionally be victims who don't do their due diligence and end up buying a '62 rust-bucket (for example) being wilfully misrepresented as an MOT-exempt '59 'project'.
We all know it happens sometimes but tbh, the Minor isn't really the kind of car that appeals to very many legislation-dodgers anway.
At the end of the day, if a rust-bucket/project ends up in enthusiastic hands, it will either be restored or donate its vital parts to keep another one on the road.
