Indicator Stalk Light - Clear not Green & Black

Post by Trixiex »

Hi! I'm the proud new owner of a 4 door 1966 Morris Minor 1000 :) It's in pretty good nick so there's not much to do, but the indicator stalk light is a bit knackered (photo attached). I'd like to replace it for the same, but can only see black & green lights. Does anyone know where I could source the clear plastic end?

Cheers!

I have only ever seen the black holder with either white, orange or green screw on lenses. They are typically about £60 plus to replace the entire unit - I do not think the black end bit is easily replaceable.

As a bit of a bargain there is one on E bay for about £11.00

The end of the stalk that houses the bulb holder should be black and the light lens should be green. I doubt you'll find any other type these days. At a guess, the lens on yours is a very faded amber one, probably inherited from a mid-1950s Austin. The amber lens is no longer available new. It was discontinued by BMC and replaced by green in 1958/59. I've never seen a clear lens and I believe that a 1966 car is required to have a green indicator warning lamp by law.

From your pic, I'd say that the bulb holder housing (not replaceable on its own) is past its best. I would consider replacing the whole switch before you start getting shocks from it. Readily available from usual Minor specialists, and used or new on everybodys favourite auction website.

I have a very light orange almost but not quite clear in a drawer in the shed. I think that these were what were seen as clear.

Thanks everyone! I think it might be wise to replace the whole part - it gets a bit toasty at the end :o
