Post by TTO640H »

Can anyone explain the details of my engine number 10V/189E/27563H27563
It is a series A 1098 engine

10V indicates ?
189E indicates ?
H27563 indicates ?

and from H27563 can you identify month and year of assembly? Either late 1969 or 1970

Under new engine numbering system introduced in March 1969, interpret as follows:
10V=1098cc.
189E=Minor with dynamo fitted.
H=High compression.
The five digits are the engine serial number.

Thanks Palacebear. This car was originally purchased from Thomas Vales, Stourport in 1964. Now lives in Queensland Australia.
Is there any way you can identify month of manufacture, either 1969 or 1970 by number?

In 1964???? Is that a typo??? :D

I don't think anyone on the forum keeps extensive/accurate production records (but I may be wrong!). I believe the only sure-fire way to identify precise date of manufacture is via British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. For a fee, they will, if records are complete, be able to give you build date, date dispatched from factory, supplying dealer (which you already know). The certificate they issue will also confirm original paint and trim colours, and any factory-fitted (not dealer-supplied) optional extras.
