Before you talk yourself out of it, find out which engine etc it has. Might be a later one fitted. Contact the seller and ask him to quote the engine number especially if he's confused himself! Take it from there before you potentially miss out on a good car

Yeh thanks for that palacebear I've got a habit of talking myself out of things. I did have a 1956 four door many year ago but I can't remember how well she performed and prior to that my first was a 1968 two door whilst my current being a 1969 tourer as mentioned before .Although I did take a test drive some two weeks ago in a 1986 Citroen 2cv.Now that's what I call under powered !

I'm just the same. I'm currently looking for another Minor. So far this month I've talked myself out of three, all of which seem to tick most of the boxes, without even seeing them and giving them a chance. A clean, tidy Series 2 with a healthy engine and gearbox will be fun, a talking-point, and most importantly it'll last just as long as any other Minor as long as its maintained correctly, and not driven flat-out all the time. They're pretty happy up to 50mph. They WILL do 60-65mph if pushed, just don't expect them to do it all day! If you've got other Minors, you'll know how to spot a good engine and gearbox!

Seconded. Far less risk to the car (and the person working on it!)I use a trolley jack in the garage, with a scissor jack for road emergencies.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: jacking points on a 1954 minor?
The thing with the 2CV is they love being driven hard, so the lack of power isn't too much of a problem. The 803 Minor does NOT love being driven hard! The bottom end of the 803 is very weak. That, combined with the extremely low gearing, is what makes them less fun, in my opinion. The 918 sidevalve engine in the MM is equally low powered, but strong, with taller gearing. As has been said before though, it's fairly straightforward to swap the 803 running gear to 948 running gear, while keeping the appearance of the car the same - that is always an option if you were to experience problems with the engine in the future. I love the older cars, as i think they have far more character than the later ones (particularly those with the early dashboard). I've always partly regretted selling my early SII.

Can't upload onto forum from (android) phone. Easy from laptop. Just crop and whathaveyou to taste then resize so that one dimension is 500 pixels and save for uploading... works for me.
