Can anyone tell me what type of bulb holders are used in the speedo for the illumination and warning bulbs and has anyone changed the bulbs for LED types with success. I did have the speedo out a while back to find the high beam indicator bulb holder was missing and I want to add it back but I can't remember what the other bulb holders were to know what to order. The car is a 1963 cross over with a mix of series 3 and 5 electrics, i.e. gold speedo series 3 dash and pull switches
Many thanks.
Any new looms have plastic replacements for these which are absolute rubbish and fall apart leaving the bulb in the void. I have had to superglue several of mine
Thanks for the answer Firedrake and the warning. I am surprised at the bulb holder you provided a link to, I thought the bulbs used were screw in types (MES I think they are called).
They are, as are the LED replacements which I recommend esp for the speedo illumination. Although these look like bayonet, I am not sure they are. May be worth giving ESM a ring. In case they are bayonet, Moss do one as well Single cable only, Speedo casing and car body act as earth.
I used these, http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Seri ... 0408.m2460
If you have an alternator don't fit one to the ignition light as I did read it needs a specific current for it to sense correctly. In the end I just fitted the bulbs to the backlights as really those are the one's that matter.

Opinions are like people, everyone can be different.
I agree it was the back light that really made the difference, the others were quite bright, I suppose because of the coloured lenses. With the LED backlights I can tell if the lights are on in the day!
Thanks for todays comments with the link to LED bulbs too. I have got an alternator fitted so will bear that in mind. And the comment about LED's being most useful for panel illumination is why I asked as my speedo being a gold faced one with black lettering does not show up very well in the night with the bulbs fitted.
Thanks again.
