I have a 1970 Morris Minor sedan which is exactly standard. Two days ago, after replacing the points and condenser, then running the engine OK and switching the ignition off, what I believe is the oil filter orange bulb glowed on. When I turned the ignition on and ran the engine, the bulb went out. This bulb is on the left hand side of the speedo and is above the blue head light. There is no electrical connector on my oil filter housing and in a forum correspondence, it stated no oil filter sensor was fitted to 1970 oil filter housing.
Can you let me know the wire colouring and location of the wiring connection on the engine fire wall, so I can check what is happening and also did connect if it is redundant, as I do not wanted to drain the battery down whilst the light is on and Morris is parked up.
At the same time, my blue bulb for high beam not longer comes on, even though the lights are going on and then off! Again how do I identify the wiring by its colour code and location of the wiring connection on the engine fire wall.
Both bulbs on the right hand side of the speedo work correctly. All lights, indicators, fuel gauge, windscreen wipers and horn all work OK
Thanks.

Re: Oil filter warning light recently came on
From your post it is difficult to know exactly which light you are referring to . A picture would help.
It sounds like the oil pressure rather than oil filter light which is supposed come on when the ignition is turned to its first stage i.e. before starting. Thereafter, it should go out on starting when oil pressure increases. It should not stay on when the engine is turned off and the key withdrawn, which, if I am reading your post right, is what you are saying is happening (?).
The wiring should lead you to the Left hand side - looking from the front - of the engine block - and a sensor in the block near the distributor. Check all connections from here back to the lamp. The sensor is easily removed and replaced.
As regards the high beam light, this is a possible switch or wiring fault. However as two closely located issues have arisen, has any electrical work been done at the speedo end or the fuse box or in the engine bay, or near the glove compartments, as this sounds like a wiring problem first and foremost.? I have sent you a link to a Leyland workshop manual with a late model wring diagram which may assist you

Re: Oil filter warning light recently came on
Thank you for your quick reply. I have downloaded the pdf thanks.
I have tried to copy and paste a picture of my speedo dash with the four lights located around the speedo.
When you view the speedo dash, on the left hand side, I have the blue high beam warning light. Above that, another warning light, which I am assuming is the oil filter warning light, which is currently on, even though the ignition switch is OFF. This is my problem.
To the right of the speedo, lower ignition warning light and above this is the oil pressure orange light.
When I turn on the ignition, the ignition warning light and oil pressure light come on, then when I start the engine these both correctly go out.
Thanks

Re: Oil filter warning light recently came on
You are right regarding the fact that the light you're referring to is the oil filter warning light and not the oil pressure, which you've correctly said is on the RHS - made sense to me! I believe it's the case that it had been discontinued by the time your car was made, though the lens remained on the speedo. Presumably someone has fitted a bulb then, if it came on, perhaps for an aftermarket item? Sorry I can't help any more, but if there are no wires on the oil filter housing, then I guess it's not going to be indicating a blocked filter! You'll need to do a bit of wire tracing and detective work if you want to see what it's indicating though! Just a thought - if the full beam light has stopped working, I wonder if the bulb holder has dropped out, and had fallen to the vicinity of the dummy oil filter light (which likely has nothing behind the lens) and the glow from the full beam bulb made it look as though the oil filter warning had come on?
