Parcel shelf template

Post by GavinL »

I've got a 68 saloon which I bought recently for which I need a parcel shelf. Having read the posts, it appears owners sometimes make their own from thin ply as the commercially available ones are a bit flimsy, which I'd like to do. Also I intend using a red covering to match the upholstery and carpets. Unfortunately I don't have one to use as a template. Is there anyone who has one not fitted which they would be willing to trace, scan and email to me? :)

The commercially available ones are fine as long as they are properly fitted and don't get wet. They can be stiffened with appropriately coloured spray paint or covering. They have the right surface texture for the cars unlike ply and have the seams and bends built in. It is important to use all the fixing points and rivets for strength.

I agree. I bought a new one from Bull Motif. It was almost exactly the same as the original (which, after all, had lasted the best part of 50years) and fitted it without much trouble. I used pop rivets and suitable washers rather than bifurcated rivets as original. Once fitted properly it is perfectly sound :)
Mine is a late model Minor 1000 with the black shelf. I understand that exactly the correct material might not be available for the earlier cars.
