Weather strip under front door

Post by Leyland »

I have a 1962 two door saloon. Both doors had new bottom sections welded in so I have lost the holes for the original metal strip. This is the one on the underside of the door where the rubber slides into a channel.
Before I drill holes to pop rivet the metal strip on, could anyone either give me measurements from the front or rear of the underside, or what would be wonderful could anyone send me a photo to work from.
Any help welcome please before I drill holes in the wrong place.
Thanks Ty

There is a school of thought that says these fittings are rust traps and best left off........if you do fit them, make sure there is plenty of grease/waxoyl between the metal strip and the door bottom.

Is this true? Two of my doors have them and two don't, debating which way to go, remove the last two or fit two more

Well, it is usually the first part of the door to start rusting........even when the doors appear sound from outside.

Never fit anything that has the possibility to trap moisture.
Personally if given the choice I would leave both the channel and the rubber strip off the door.
