Ha! I'm not the only one. The cutlery racks were never quite white again.

Re: Feeling brave?
Actually, it didn't go too badly. Had it been a head for an A7 or an aeroplane part then I might have struggled to survive.
The dishwasher tablet did a good job of pulling oil out of the nooks and crannies, to the point that I got a bit of flash rust prior to getting some oil brushed onto the cast iron guides and the unplated steel studs. It didn't remove much of the thin carbon in the ports so I've got a tiny wire brush in a Dremel to stuff in there. The guides are 7mm, unlike the 9/32 guides of the later cars and are unavailable so I have to lathe up some VW ones to fit if either of the heads need them.

Rob
I am using for all 8 valves in my blown MM, exhaust valves from a Nissan EXA turbocharged motor. Made of good stuff and have 7 mm. stems and a head dia. of 30.3 mm. You may want to check them out.

Re: Feeling brave?
Thanks for that, Bob.
I went through an entire book of valves without much success but I guess that car is not available in the UK. I'll check it out.

Looks like a Lamona dishwasher... bottom hinges fail on 'em.

Re: Feeling brave?
The Alta valves a re a bit shorter at 85.4mm (3.362 in) and the heads are 1 inch and 1.132 in (25.4mm and 28.75mm). The ali head has very narrow inserts so oversized valve heads might be a problem, although if suitable, those EX valves might be machineable down to size.
TDV. Yes, it IS a Lamona. I've previously replaced the hinges on the washer AND the fridge. Grrrr.

Re: Feeling brave?
LMAO - Ours is getting replaced this weekend because it's blown it's board. That's without car parts in as well. Perhaps an occasional cylinder head would have benefited it...
