I'm aware of the arguments regarding EP4 vs EP5 oil in the Moggie diff. I need to replace the oil in my new Moggie's diff and have an old gallon can of Castrol Hypoy EP90 in my garage. Unfortunately it doesn't mention either Ep4 or EP5 on it - in fact about the only thing it says on the can is the type of oil (Hypoy EP90) and a number (in big letters) 1840. Now I assume the 1840 means something but Google can't help me there, nor does the Castrol web site.
Does anyone have a clue if this oil is EP4 and will it be safe in my diff? It seems a shame to have to throw a gallon of oil away just because of my uncertainly.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Re: Castrol EP90
Thanks Les. I have taken your advice and it is now in the diff, so unfortunately no EP 90 coming your way.
(You should have said " No, whatever you do don't use it. Give it to me

Re: Castrol EP90
If it really was an imperial gallon ( ca. 4,5 litre in real Money ?? ) then there should be sufficient left over for several diffs.
