Unable to turn off heater

Post by MKT »

I took the Morris out for a run yesterday, it was a nice warm day and I was unable to turn the heater off, the valve under the bonnet seams to move freely when I pull the cable but still does not shut off the heat, can these valves become faulty even though the rod moves in and out freely

The later after market heater valves are notorious for failing and yours could have failed.
Use the search facility to see how other Minor owners have overcome the problem.
The old screw type on off valve is the best but you have to lift the bonnet to adjust.

The next time my cable operated valve decides its going to spray coolant everywhere I was going to have a bash at engineering one of these to fit.

I reckon with a bracket attached to the side of the battery tray somewhere, a plain hose stub on the back of the head and some pipe work it could make a neat decent solution, with a half decent reliable valve and offer the convenience of control in the car.

Not such a bad idea and easy to do. I make my own stubs and here are the dimensions of the flange.

I have this valve on both my MM's. Works great. Only problem is that I couldn't find it in 1/2 inch, so used reducers.
