Right - settles down in seat for long reply - Vizard had no explanation for it either - but it was a back to back test. Yes, I would say power should remain unchanged - and points bounce is really only an issue for 6 and 8 cylinder cars. Cooper S points have stronger spring - if you can still get them ! Agreed - higher volts is just coil/plug gap thing - but some leccy systems lead one to belive they have higher volts. maybe they can switch more current than is safe with points - and maybe they can hold longer dwell to charge the coil more at high revs. My car seemed to be particularly sluggish - investigated and found vacuum unit was U/S - fitted a new one - and Bingo - much more 'lively' on acceleration. Asd for the cylinder head and gasket - 6 years ago it blew the gasket on way to work. Set off home again (fortunately it was Friday half-day) - had to give up after about 2 miles - set too at the side of the road with my few hand tools (no sockets) and pulled the head off. Walked 2 miles to Autoparts - bought Mini head gasket (only £3 - so actually bought 2 !) - walked back - fitted the new gasket - and drove home again. All done in good suit (!) in blazing sunshine - I did take the jacket off and roll up my sleeves. Now also carry boiler suit. Swore to always carry head and gasket with me in future - never had any more trouble. Plenty of room in beside the spare wheel for that sort of stuff ! Also - just checked my compressions - 165/170 psi all cylinders. That's with a 'leaded' 12g295 head (skimmed to the extreme) which has never had any '4 star' or leaded petrol or additives in the 6 years - and when it is driven - it's driven hard !
