Re: standard 1 1/4" carb
Hi Phil,as I said the needle had GX on it so I have rung Burden and ordered the AN jet and a rubber seal which they recommended though I didn't really understand where it goes.He said the one fitted might be damaged due to modern fuels,it wasn't expensive as it was only £13 for the lot including postage.I appreciate your help and advice, thankyou,Roger

I doubt that you have the wrong carb - the wrong needle yes
These are the dimensions at various points down the needle for comparison.
AN -------------------------GX
.089----------------------- .089
.0855--------------------- .0855
.0827--------------------- .0835
.0807----------------------.0815
.0787----------------------.0795
.077------------------------.0775
.0753----------------------.0755
.074-----------------------.0735
.073---------------------- .072
.072.----------------------.070
.071-----------------------.068
.070---------------------- .066
.069-----------------------.064
Not a lot of difference but there is a difference.
I would recommend that you purchase the correct AN needle from either Burlen Fuels or your usual Minor parts supplier. Not expensive and it will be better to get the correct needle.
