Rust patches...how to?
Hi all, new to this lark, just bought a great minor 1000, 4 door. No structural rust? But some little bits along door etc. Trouble is i have really no idea how to deal with it....how do i start? What do i do 1st, rub down using what? I really am a total novice....so advice on what equipment, products to use, how to paint etc....most restoration books are about removing whole wings...i don't need to do that...i hope that is...so any advice? Books etc...sorry if this has been covered.

Hi there Steaky and welcome to the forum!! If you've got rust along the bottom of the door, then, I'm afraid its likely to have rusted from the inside, possibly due to blocked drain holes trapping water. As a temporary measure, you could remove all the rust (wire brush, grinder sandpaper etc) treat and fill then paint. But its going to come through again in a year or two.
The long term solution is a repair section welded in (or a complete door skin) then protected from the inside by waxoyl. Or, possibly the cheapest is to find a cheap 2nd hand door. Join your local club!!

Streaky as John mentioned the point, the 1st place to start is to look under the doors and make sure that the drain holes are completely clear and it wont do any harm to pop the door cards off to have a look inside.i have really no idea how to deal with it....how do i start?
Cheers
