Seam Sealer ?

I am about to prime on my car i have some cheap seam sealer in a tin but is there something better and i normally prime then seam seal re prime then paint, If thats not right it would explain why all my cars fall appart

Some seam sealers contain silicone which actually causes corrosion! Tiger seal is the stuff to use.

You should always use a good quality metal primer first before using the seam sealer and yes - use a good quality seam sealer too.

The tin of seam sealer i have is made by tetrosyl brush on stuff, Having looked at the tiger seal i think i will just order that as it seems easier in a cartridge and even has a choice of colours, thanks all

Well to give an alternate view , I use Pound shop gutter sealant . It can be smoothed with brush or rag with white spirit . It seems durable and can be painted over . I use it on top of primer .

I've used tiger seal on various old motors and it sticks very well, the only snag I found is that paint didn't like it, it wouldn't dry and stayed sticky.
..in the context I last used it for, footwells in an old Landrover, it didn't really matter but if you need to paint over it, beware.
Shame as it's an excellent sealer.

That hasn't been my experience. I've painted over Tiger seal without any problems at all. It needs to be fully cured first and then can be lightly rubbed with a scotchbrite pad and then spirit wipe prior to painting with normal car repair products - a primer then colour coats.

Thanks Jim and lurch, I'll do some test bits when i'm in the garage i have some tiger seal now and a product that is a PU sealer and glue that seams to be the same.

Hope it works for you, it is good stuff, I was attempting to paint over it with Tractol enamel which it didn't like, again as mentioned above I probably didn't prep it
It could well be fine with whatever paint you're going to use.

Tractol, i have used that a few times for painting machinery and some of my beetle suspension parts are going to get painted in agricultural paint as there is a local farm shop that sells it and its always been hard wearing, So maybe i will make sure prime over the seam sealer to give it a good surface to bite on.

Just a thought, what kind of paint? Not drying may be specific to the paint technology.
