Battery top-up

Post by OWmoo »

I have a LN063 calcium-calcium battery about 4 years old. When doing a few checks at the week-end I had a peek inside and found it very dry with no electrolite above the plates. I thought these things were supposed to be fit and forget with no maintenance required. Do I top up with distilled water as per the older lead-acid type?

Sounds like your system is overcharging - 'boiling' the electrolite - they should never normally need topping up. What volts are on the battery when the engine is running at decent revs ?

If it has caps on the top, they do need checking from time to time.

Not if the charging voltage is correctly controlled...... Don't think I have ever had to top up a battery in the last 40 years!
