re oil plug

i have replaced my sump plug and put a brass washer and i still have a drip,any suggestions

Maybe an annealed copper washer would be the answer.

Do the job properly and use the correct washer Pt No: 6K638 (Moss), if not available - do as Les suggested and use an annealed copper washer of the correct size and torque the sump plug to 6 lb ft (from BL Wksp Manual).

As above - no nasty tape. I'm sure you will get a washer at the local plumb shop!

I always anneal my washers when I change the oil. Blowlamp up to cherry red and quench or allow to cool. Softens and allows the washer to bed in. Never have any leaks!

And I have always just reused the same washer completely untouched, and never had any leaks either......

If you wanted to, would it be an idea to substitute the copper washer with a tight fitting rubber "O" ring? Or would it compress too much and deform as a seal?

Substituting the copper washer for a rubber 'O' ring is a bad idea. The rubber ring has no built in inherent strength so will deform and result in an oil leak and which may lead to the drain plug coming loose and falling out with total loss of oil.
The only substitute for a copper washer is a Dowty washer which is a steel/alloy washer with a rubber core with sealing lips - used for sealing the sump drain plug on some moderns.

There were two types of copper washer fitted to the sump drain plug of an 'A' Series - the flat copper washer and the crushable copper washer. The crushable copper washer should be replaced every time the sump plug is removed.
