Petrol 95 or 97?

Hi there

My new Morris Minor has a 1098cc engine I have heard mixed reports about whether to use standard unleaded 95 or super. Some say there is no point using super. What do you say?

I try to stick to the branded super because there's a better chance of avoiding ethanol in the fuel. Probably not great for old engines. Opinions vary though! There's a very long thread regarding 'supermarket petrol' that ran about a year ago. You may want to read through it.

95 is plenty good enough for a standard engine. No worries about 'ethylene' either....It's all scaremongering. And no need for money wasting 'additives' either.

Roy, you forgot to mention the different valve clearance settings if using Euro-fuel.
Will we get our 4* leaded fuel back when we finally Brexit? What about the 5* we lost years ago?

Our contribution to "pollution reduction" is pointless whilst China is allowed to go polluting because they are an "emerging nation" - what a load of old hokum - they were ahead of us for centauries, back in the "dark ages". So why the special treatment?

I used to treat my 55 to 5 star, as he ran really well on it with the timing slightly advanced. Happy days. I was tempted to try adding nitromethane from the local model shop to a tank of fuel, as I knew the guy who worked there. Probably just as well I didn't.
