Oil and locking device advice

Post by Clare45 »

I've just become the very proud owner of a 1958 Morris Minor convertible. It has been fully restored.
Can anyone recommend what type and brand of oil to use?

I would also like to get a locking device for the car.

Any recommendations on either of those greatly appreciated
Thank you :D

A decent 20/50 oil for the engine and gearbox, Halfords classic 20/50 is good but I use Comma oil from my local motor factors - it's just as good and half the price :)
For security I use a Disclock, it clamps around the steering wheel and is a very good visual deterrent as well as being extremely difficult to remove without a key, if you do decide to get one then the large size is needed to fit the standard Minor steering. Also a secret switch to isolate the ignition will often baffle a potential thief

You DO want a secret switch - but not necessarily on the Ignition which is too obvious and too easily by-passed by any worthwhile thief. It is an absolute MUST for every Morris Minor.

Or the old wartime standby: remove the rotor arm.

Assuming you do not have electronic ignition that is. If so, swapping the plug leads around works.

That's what I do swoop two of the leads over when parked up and I don't mark them in firing order either.
