Lucas Coils

Hi all
Am I correct in thinking that the Lucas DA12 coils fitted to our cars is the same as Lucas part DLB101.

I know the rotor arms are DRB101 and capacitor DDB101

No Problem Then - what is ur Distributor DM2 or 25D ? Did u change the Point set ?- if not, Change it too and check the sparking plugs also - If u can set the yellow wire condenser, it will work long time

Lucas now get TRW in China to produce their coils instead of the original factory which is now selling their own coils as 'Intermotor', so, by buying Intermotor you are buying what used to be called Lucas back when Lucas was (almost) a good product. I noticed a while back that one of the Mini companies (Minispares?) was selling Intermotor "due to repeated returns" of Rucas coils.
DLB101 is fine on a standard car and has 3 Ohms across the 2 terminals and maybe 9000-ish (?) between terminals and the centre one, ideal for what you want. Sports coil is overkill unless you are going for wider points gaps since the coil will only 'brew up' until it reaches enough volts to fire a spark across whatever gap you have. 25 thou for normal plugs but NGK sell 99% of their plugs already gapped to 33 thou. They all need gapping before use.

PS Did you mean La12 or maybe SA12? Early cars also had Q12 and BR12 but they are the Bakelite/black ones. SA is the old sports coil, hence I though I ought to mention it.

The 'new' Lucas coils are made in tin huts in far away places. Many have reported problems with them after a very short time. Best go to Distributor Doctor or Accuspark. You get what you pay for.... But what's wrong with the old coil ? And check the new coil is 3.2ohms..........
