Post by bloodyank »

Thanks as always, mates!

You can probably get an original for much less from someone on here, just ask for a starter handle / wheel wrench

Anybody make their own starter handle somehow? What are the dimensions of it? What's the diameter of the rod?

Starting handle- it should be in the boot - it's also the wheel brace. If all you want to do is 'turn over' the engine (ie not attempting to start it) - just use the fan blades with your hands - Ignition OFF of course. Much easier with the plugs out if you are setting valve gaps - or fiddling with the ignition timing - which can only really be done properly with the engine running.

On mine the main shaft is 0.625 inch plain bar. The dowel through the shaft that engages with the crank is 0.225 on mine so was probably originally 0.250 inch and is centred 0.250 from the end of the shaft, which is flat without any bevel. This is for the earlier MM sidevalve Morris engine but I doubt they changed the design.

Hopefully someone here can go down to their garage and measure one off of a later car for you.
