General starting issues.
Bought an old minor that hasn't run for at least five years.
I have services it throughout and replaced parts as necessary, drained the fuel and put new petrol in and a new fuel line/pipe in. I have thoroughly cleaned out the carb and fuel pump and replaced hose lines etc. New ht leads dizzy cap, points and coil etc.
Yesterday I went for the start up.
Turned the key one click and the fuel pump kicked in clicking away and then stopped, did it stop because it had primed all the air out of the system? Should it continue to make the clicking noise?
Anyway decided to re-charge the battery and have another bash today.
Would be great if I could get it running today. Any help would be great.
Cheers

Re: Fuel pump and starting issues
The pump only clicks till the fuel bowl on the carb is full, once full it will stop till the carb needs more. Good luck, hope it starts and runs OK

Re: Fuel pump and starting issues
Dear Morris Friend - the tikking the Su pump says it work fine - when the fuel fill to the cab it automatically Stop till the car use it - again pump tik tik till the cab fill
1st - you change the gear off position , then you ON your key - next wait till the off the tiking sound of pump , then pull the chock if it is 1st start on the day - finally turn your key to start
The ticking sound not stop - it says No petrol or air in the pump - if it is air in the pump , Off the key - remove the fuel pipe from cab / carburetor - then use your mouth suck some till fuel come to the pump then put the pipe end to a clean bottle and On the key back - Look fuel come to the bottle ? if not come ,Off the key suck some back Do it again till come to fuel to the bottle - when it ok set the pipe back to your cab - then it work fine if not any air leak of your system
when you going to do this easy way remove a battery wire and turn your key ON - then u not need to go away to key ON - lol
my car has a transparent pipe - pump to the cab then i can see fuel come or not - lol
Safe you using your mouth or use some tool or safety way - i am no problem Because i can see the fuel before come to the mouth
best luck
