Well, I'm new to the club and to the forum. I'm also Australian and experience over a range of forums has lead me to understand that a common language often does little to aid understanding. I haven't been bitten yet, but I will be because forums are like that. I haven't imagined I've been bitten yet, but that'll happen because I'm human and a sadly frail one at that. For my part, I'll try be helpful and, where possible/practical/sensible, try to lighten someone's day with a bit of humour. I also understand that many forum users are not interested in long posts (and hence sometimes give replies condensed to the point of being terse themselves), some are offended by attempts at humour (to which I'll delete my reaction

). An internet forum, particularly an international one, is a weird exercise in social behaviour that you'll find nowhere in real life and this is why some people find them so hard to come to grips with.
The basic 'rules' are:
- if you feel offended, it probably wasn't meant to be but if you aren't sure, report it to a moderator, that is part of their job.
- people from other places, particularly other countries but even just in the next county, think, speak and write differently to you, so if you don't understand their post, or they don't understand yours, just put a little more thought into the interpretation. THEN call them a complete dill (but not on the forum).
- never ever post when you're drunk, even slightly so. The written word is too inflexible as a form of communication and the chances of misunderstanding escalate with every drink.
- don't get upset with us mug Australians because we're actually quite harmless and only bite when defending a juicy bone.
It's always a loss to a forum when someone decides not to post anymore. Sometimes you need to ignore certain members, or choose not to post in certain areas, but please, keep posting.
