wheel bearing play after only a year and few miles!

Post by Budgie »

Well my tourer passed her mot today with no advisories however I had to tighten the nearside front wheel bearing during the test [he's a good un is my tester] as there was a bit of play in it when the tester shook it which I found strange as I renewed the same only last year as it failed due to too much play which couldn't be tightened any more! So my query is has anyone else experienced fitting new front wheel bearing only to have to tighten them up again after only a few hundred miles? On the plus side yah hoo she passed. :D

But there is NO 'tightening' of the bearing - unless they have worked loose on the shaft, which would be a big worry. The bearings are not 'adjustable' as such. It's typical of the crap bearings being sold by some suppliers.... :(

The standard Minor bearings are not adjustable, but many cars have had disc brakes fitted, and these usually have hubs with tapered bearings that are adjustable. What do you have fitted to your car?
