Traveller door hinges rusty
Hello people I bought my traveller 2 weeks ago. The main welding has been done floors, sills etc. But I've noticed on opening the front doors the bottom hinge (the side hats attached to the car itself) opens so far then stops opening and as the pillar to which it's attached to is rusty around the hinge it starts to pull the pillar with it. My idea is to take the door off and leave the hinges on and weld around the hinges to make it strong again. Will that work or is there a better way. Thanks guys.

Re: Traveller door hinges rusty
Ideally you need to take the wing off 1st and see what you find behind. Hopefully it will be fine and pillar just needs a small repair. I had to repair mine both sides of the pillar.[frame]

After plenty of welding it's all sound and the door gaps are good.[frame]

The best way is to remove the door and wing and then weld in a new pre-formed pillar section, available from the usual traders. You might find that you need to extend the welding.

Ah that's good to know I wasn't sure whether it'd be a pain to fix or pretty simple
Re: Traveller door hinges rusty
It's certainly not simple - with rot in this area there will be more inside for you to discover. And the other side? The same ?

Yeah I'd say so I don't know how bad it all is yes though, not until I take the doors and wings off.
Re: Traveller door hinges rusty
Let's see some pictures..... Was any of this known when you bought the car?

When it comes to uploading an image if you have Facebook I like to messege the picture to myself and save it that way it's smaller and due to my awful nternet it uploads much quicker being a smaller resolution1965 mogster wrote:I haven't got any photos of that part yet I'll get some in the morning ill try add a pic to this of the car itself though if I can work out how haha

I've managed to get some photos of the drivers side hinge and the passenger side is about the same[frame]
