green light above ignition key in case headlamps on
Does any one have a photo for me of the green light behind the grill/ashtray of a minor mm, shining on the ignition key in case the headlamps are on,because mine is not there.
Does anyone have this part for me?
thanks Harry

I don't have a picture I'm afraid, but unlike the 'helpful' reply above, I do know what you're talking about, as it's the same light as I had on my early Series II
. Is it the holder you need a photo of, or the bulb itself? I would pop a post in the MM section as well to get a reply from someone with a car who could take a picture for you. If you have no joy, just give one of the many Minor specialists advertised in the magazine or on the web a call

Re: green light above ignition key in case headlamps on
Thank you for the reply, i need indeed a photo of the holder and the way it' s fixed. And i need also the holder and bulb, which i cannot get at the specialists, so i try to get an old one.

Hi h
See attached pics. The green light that illuminates the ignition key barrel is similar in construction to the one that is used for the high beam indicator except the metal shroud has a slot cut around it and green material to project the light through. The white light you can see is because there is a break in the green material. It is secured in place behind the choke cable securing nut and washer as is the high beam secured behind the starter control securing nut and washer. The lamp holders that push into the metal holders are the same. My Nuffield Workshop manual quotes the lamps as #970 2.5 volt 0.5 watt, however this is not correct. I have measured the volts at the lamp socket at 12 volts and the lamp is marked 'OSRAM 12 VOLT 2.2 W'. I hope you find this post more useful than ' ??? ' above.

Re: green light above ignition key in case headlamps on
Bob thank you very much it' s just the information i wanted.
I didn' t know there should also be a high beam indicator light , for that' s also gone.
In the users manual of the car, the green light is mentioned but not the high beam light.
May be the high beam light isn' t standard?
Is the high beam indicator light blue as usual?
Hopefully someone can help me in finding these holders.
Friendly greetings,
Harry

Hi Harry
The green light is refered to as a 'Side & Tail Lamp Warning Light'. As shown in the pics my main beam light is red. Refer to
'MORRIS MINOR Series "MM' and Series 11" WORKSHOP MANUAL issue 3 page N20 Section N26 for details of the lamp warning light. Also page N27 for wiring diagram of my 1952 MM which shows "headlamp main beam warning light". Don't know whether the beam warning light was fitted to home models.

Re: green light above ignition key in case headlamps on
Early cars didn't have the red 'high beam' light. If the black card behind the metal grille doesn't have a small hole drilled in it for the light to get through then your car didn't have a high beam light.
Commenced at (4-door) UK market chassis 139175
(4-door) Export market chassis 138415
(2/Tourer) 140823
Part number is 135368 for high beam assembly.
134541 for dash green light assembly. (Finished at chassis number 170678)

Not sure what you mean by 'if the mark is Lucas'. I was unable to see any markings or inscriptions on either of the lamp units. Also the light is meant as an indicator that the side lights are switched on as they are not visible from inside the car. If the head lights were on they would be visible from inside the car.

Rob
Harry's chassis no. 156595 comes after the three chassis no's. you quoted so it seems as though it should have a high beam warning light.

My 1950 car had the green dash light like BLOWNMM above but I moved it to behind the headlight switch so it shines onto all of the switches

Yes, I agree. Next thing is to work out how to find one or to make one. I doubt I've got a spare.

I should have spares of both. How many do I need to search for, just a pair for Harry or do you need one/some too Rob?RobThomas wrote:Yes, I agree. Next thing is to work out how to find one or to make one. I doubt I've got a spare.

Re: green light above ignition key in case headlamps on
Slight thread hijack, but, what colour should the steel backplate be behind the switches and the metal grille? I've seen silver ones and gold electroplated finishes.

Hi wpr 6788,
I understand you have both the green light and the red light holder for me?
I would be very glad to receive those lights from you, if you want to sell them.
The bulbs are 12 volt 2.2 watt as Bob said. I' ve got a list in the original manual for mm.
Thanks for reply and friendly greetings , Harry
