Could I not use axle stands on the crossmember ?bmcecosse wrote:You really should put a good thick scaffold plank right across the car just forward of the front spring mounts (may foul the prop shaft but since you are taking the axle off anyway....) and stands under that. But also pile wheels/tyres in there 'just in case'

Re: Rear Axle
It's your risk - you can do whatever you wish. I can't tell you to do that - then the Xmember crumbles and the car falls on you.... It's too far forward anyway - surely?
Re: Rear Axle
Only thinking of how I'd get the wood back home alive no roof rack and a small car
Could end up looking like a extra from "the plank"

Re: Rear Axle
If the engine is in place, you can jack up from the crossmember, but also put a support at the back otherwise it can rock on the x-mbr.

Re: Rear Axle
Yes will do it no problems. As said above please put wheels and tyres under the car. Could save your life and will make the car more stable.
Re: Rear Axle
Good so decking board supported with axle stands and I'll use the trolley jack as well and maybe buy some big bricks and build some supports as I only have four tyresgreendefender123 wrote:Yes will do it no problems. Re: Rear Axle
Bricks or most concrete blocks are inapprpriate because they can crush - whereas timber supports will not fail suddenly. Think here old coal mine supports for instance.

Not so long ago a lad from this forum was killed when his Minor fell on him. Don't take any silly chances.
