Lucas 45d distributor
I have an MG midget with the 1500 engine and it has a Lucas 45d dizzy with early lumenition optical ignition, can i use this in an A series engine .
Re: Lucas 45d distributor
Sorry -no idea about the mounting on the 1500 engine - but there's a 'good chance' it will be fine. Try it!

I will give it a go and see if it works whats the worst that could happen...
Re: Lucas 45d distributor
It will be pretty obvious when you hold the two units side by side if the drive arrangement and block clamping arrangement are identical.. I think they will be - a 45 D is a 45 D. But I don't KNOW for sure, so I can't tell you to barge ahead without checking! Are both cars same polarity?

Re: Lucas 45d distributor
Both units look identical, and both cars are negative earth, the only difference is the lumenition optical set up but thats just a few wires, i did wonder about the advance as all engines the 45d fits may have some differing set up.
Re: Lucas 45d distributor
I rather doubt they will have different advance curves - I assume Accu/Power will have settled on a 'universal' curve to suit all (or none
). But your old dizzy curve will be hopeless anyway with modern fuels...... Not ideal of course - if you want your dizzy set up correctly you need to contact A C Dodd who is a wizard at that!!

Just out of interest I fitted this to an older MGB 25 years ago . At the time I thought it was brilliant .
