I've been having a few problems with the clutch recently on my 67 mog.
There is very little clearance in the pedal so I have to depress it completely to get the clutch to engage, which it does only in the last half inch of movement.
Previously had problems adding oil to the gearbox - due to tight nut (assuming this is unrelated).
I have looked at the manual on adjusting and am about to have a look underneath to see if I can.
Does anyone have any tips or thoughts?

Do you mean DIS engage ? There should be approx 3/4" free play at the pedal - it usually decreases as the clutch wears. Perhaps the bushings where the clutch operating levers run are badly worn? Easy enough to renew them.

Just to clarify what I mean as I am probably not using the correct terms

When the clutch pedal is pressed - there is a significant amount of travel before I feel the clutch come in to play (by that i mean it allows the gears to be shifted).
The 'engagement' is only right at the end of the pedals movement - perhaps the last half inch or so.
this has led to a few crunches and occasionally its hard to get into first (when stationary) or third (on the move).

Is the clutch return spring there ?? The return springs can rust and fallen off or not be refitted after a clutch / gearbox removal.

So you just need to adjust it up till there is that 3/4" of free play - assuming there is enough adjustment left on the threaded bar.

But do check the layshaft which was the cause of my similar Problem.

The original rubber bush in which a brass bush sits in, is often perished and a lot of the movement in depressing the clutch pedal is taken up by the resultant "play" .

This rubber bush is now replaced by a nylon one which, one supposes will last longer. To check you will need someone to depress the clutch whilst you are underneath the car looking for irregularities.
