67 Car - Gold 80mph speedo conversion

Post by moggymaniac »

Hi all,
I have bought an early gold faced (centre of dash) speedo, as I think it will look better in my minor...
Besides the slight issue of accuracy with regards to speed (it seems an improvement on the original, maybe as I'm running smaller wheels...?) I can't get the fuel gauge to work. I know the black ones have a 10v stabilizer, and I've tried wiring the gold gauge in the same way as the black, utilising the stabilizer, but it only 'blips' to life when i turn the ignition on and rests on 'E'...do I need to simply do away with the stabilizer to make the gold one work? Or will the wiring and late sender not be compatible with the early, non-stabilized fuel gauge? It would be nice not to have to fit the black gauge into a gold speedo (aesthetically speaking) ...
Cheers :)

Yes - different action altogether - you need a matching early sender in the tank.

If you have standard wheels and diff you will need a gold speedo with a 1402 TPM (90 mph, early 1098)

I think so - if you can buy one ? Don't know about that - and don't use the stabiliser with it.
