Large bore exhaust downpipe

Post by siralec »

Recently ordered a replacement from ESM (my car was Owen Burton modified several years ago, large bore exhaust, twin carbs) but upon fitting found that the angle downwards coming out of the cylinder head was not quite the same, and pipes 1 and 3 fouled the float chambers of the two carbs. Anyone else come across this problem? I bought from ESM because I thought they had taken over all the old Owen Burton improvement hardware....but the pattern appears to have changed.

Is this what you are trying to fit?

What carbs and inlet manifold are fitted?
Do you have the spacers between manifold and carb.
Item No: 16/78 in the attached links.

A photo of your problem would be appreciated.
I have never had a problem fitting LCB manifolds to a Minor.

If they are 'tiny twin' 1.25" SU's - take the chance to upgrade to a single 1.5" SU and let the engine breathe!

Yes it is Phil....

Spacers I don't think will solve the problem, manifold studs are too short. Moss Europe doesn't do spacers any more anyway.

You must be looking at the wrong/different spacers - the spacers (insulating blocks) I am referring to (Pt No: AEA586 (qty 2)) go between the manifold/heat shield and the carb(s) not the cylinder head and manifold and are listed as still available from MOSS.

Thankyou Phil will contact Moss again. They have already confirmed that they no longer sell such a beast!

Slaps palm on forehead, never thought of putting them between carbs and manifold!

Forgot - you mentioned a heat shield, would be very useful is that an original minor part or spridget rather ?(of course spridget one needed for two carbs....)

See my link in 'another place' - if the studs are short - just use longer ones ! Are you sure you don't perhaps have Mini manifold/carbs there ?

Thankyou for the link, these spacers are a bit thin, have found suitable ones at Burlen Services

Good - as long as you get the necessary clearance. But a single larger carb would be a better bet in every way.
