Seatbelt puzzle – where are yours anchored?

I wonder if I could compare the seatbelt anchorage points on my ’66 two-door with someone else’s?

I discovered the other day when I carried an average-sized passenger that there wasn’t enough adjustment in the static seatbelt on the passenger side. (I’m tall and skinny and the driver’s seat is set all the way back, so my belt fits fine!)

The belts are Securon part no: 300/45, which measure 217cm between anchor points, and are allied to a 45cm stalk on the floor. They replaced the standard belts that came with the car, which were roughly the same length.

I’m assuming the original belts were fitted at the factory (the mount at the bottom of the B pillar has a captive nut welded to the inner sill), so that anchor points on all the later cars would be in the same place.

Top anchors are half-way between the B and C pillars, while the inner bottom anchors are on the floor a couple of inches or so from the vertical support for the rear seat (see pic).

Are yours the same?

One option might be to re-drill the floor mounts for the stalks a couple of inches further forward. However, I hate drilling holes in my Morris so, before I do, I’d like to compare my set-up with other people’s!

Could anyone tell me if the mounts on their two-door are in the same as mine?

The stalks are usually fitted through the trans tunnel -just make sure the bolts don't foul the prop shaft on full bump.

I fitted the same belts to my 4 door a few years ago and fitted the the stalks to the transmission tunnel.
Are yours fitted to the floor a hindrance to passengers in the rear?

Exactly - the belt socket should sit pretty much on or just beside your hip. And of course - good big plates underneath the tunnel to spread the load in an emergency. But again - beware fouling the brake cables or the prop shaft.

I've bolted my buckles to the flat floor in my 2-door in exactly the same place as yours. Mine are too short too

It's apparently taken from the Morris workshop manual, and appears to show the belts bolted to the floor.

Perhaps seat belts were longer in those days - or people were thinner?

It wouldn't be difficult to be thinner than me . Also the originals I imagine would have been fixed belts rather than inertia reels so may have had more adjustment?

We also have Securon lap & diagonal inertia reel seat belts, and have used their dual tunnel mount with no stalks. Nothing on the rear floor to get in the way of rear seat passengers, and nothing to get in the way of tilting the front seats (so long as you angle the tunnel sockets forward a little - see first photo).

The carpet and sound deadening felt have been cut away so that the 'U' bracket sits right down on top of the tunnel and underneath there is a 1/8" thick, 1 1/2" diameter, tunnel shaped washer to spread the load on the relatively thin tunnel material.

Just noticed in the picture the slight rusty bolts on the Newton Commercial seats - you would think at the price they are they could have plated the fixings? Have sent them the same picture and asked for some rust protected replacements - will be interesting to see their response?

Not sure about that 'single bolt' mount - but at least it's on a good panel with some strength in it - a flat floor mount is hopeless.....
