New owner, running issues
Hi, just bought myself a Traveller I have known the car for 15 years my friends dad has been restoring it. It has done 100 miles in the last 5 years just going to and back from the mot station. I have started using but has cut out on me twice and would not start. Leave for 10 minutes it starts back up no problem. I don't think it's fuel as the car just cut's out no spluttering to a halt. I'm thinking condenser or coil? Any help would be appreciated I will post pics later.
Thanks
Neil.
Thanks
Neil.
Re: New owner, running issues
It's NEVER the coil!!! Condenser yes - but sudden cut suggests bad/loose connection - which could be on the coil of course. Does it have fresh petrol in the tank? Is the pump ticking ?

Re: New owner, running issues
Yes fresh petrol, no indication it's running out fuel which points in the direction of electrical, leave it 10 minutes then starts fine so not sure of bad connection. I,ve ordered a coil and condenser today so I'll stick in car and try change when it cuts out. Run the car to work today and had no issue so may go out Saturday early doors stick to the bus routes and see if it cuts out if it does change the condenser first and see if that cures it or because it's been stood so long something may just need kicking back into life.
Re: New owner, running issues
Don't change the coil! Most are made in far away places in tin huts -often to the wrong specification. Coils either work - or they don't. No 10 minute warm up. ONLY change the condenser which may also be rubbish unless you went to Distributor Doctor for it. Red rotor arm would have been a wise investment too.....

Re: New owner, running issues
It could also be a faulty rotor arm, if it is, they generally get worse over time and fail altogether. If it is the condensor the points will be badly pitted.

if the rotor arm has a rivit holding it togeather it can short through that , get a red rotor arm from distributer doctor or accuspark , they do qualiaty ignition parts .

Re: New owner, running issues
If you have a 1098cc engine you will have a 45d distributor. So ask for the parts to suit.

Re: New owner, running issues
The 1098 never was fitted with the 45D (except in the Mini) - but it will fit. Normal would be 25D. For a 1275 it could be either now. Look at the side of it! It's marked..... or post up a picture.
