ManyMinors, yes 52 miles in the first 22 years is amazing, thats about 2.5 miles a year if it had an MOT during that time the MOT staion must have been around 1 mile away, Do you think its more likely that when the owner got it in 1981 with 52 miles on it had just gone around the clock?

I doubt it had gone "around the clock" although it is a possibility. 100,000miles in 22years is still a fairly low average of 4500 per year. The car looks in very good condition doesn't it but I have seen low mileage cars in terrible condition and high mileage ones which look almost unworn! What I will say, having worked on this sort of car when they were modern cars, is that the Smiths speedometer/odometer was not the most reliable component and it was very common to fit new units to cars. Maybe that is what happened to this car? Without careful examination of the car and paperwork it is very hard to say.olderisbetter wrote:ManyMinors, yes 52 miles in the first 22 years is amazing, thats about 2.5 miles a year if it had an MOT during that time the MOT staion must have been around 1 mile away, Do you think its more likely that when the owner got it in 1981 with 52 miles on it had just gone around the clock?

My Minor was collected new from the Morris factory in Oxford and driven back to the then BMC garage in Chipping Campden where it was collected by the new owner Jan 1958.
My Minor also had two lady owners before I purchased it for £152 with 42k on the clock and it was still immaculate inside and out.
I cannot ever remember a car transporter being used to deliver the BMC cars to the garage all being collected from the factory on trade plates.
Phil

I think the MOT certificates from early years of this car would have been better proof than the later ones, But if they are not with the car for some reason that puts doubt inn my mind, Is there no way to find old MOT history through the DVLA or a historic search?

Seller appears confident of car history, however due to the absence of early documentation eg. MOT's I feel any buyer can only consider the car as ''thought to be 2570 miles'' and if happy with that and the price then buy it.
As always its ''caveat emptor''.

So - not exactly overwhelmed with bids.....I wonder why? Now relisted. On such a 'low miles' car would the owner really be likely to mess about fitting ghastly peaks - and equally horrid wheel trims? And a chrome exhaust tail pipe - and were number plate lamps always 'chrome' ? Can we assume it's not still on the cross-ply tyres? Has anyone local to it actually been to see it? No denying it's a very nice looking car (although the paint looks a bit '2k' to me - but not so nice under the bonnet. Here we find dull/dirty paint and a silly fuel filter, and the air filter casing appears to have been brush painted, and has it lost it's 'tube' ? And no sign of the original stickers, oh and a replacement SU fuel pump by the looks of it.

It seemed to have disappeared - did he relist it again ?? ie 2 re-lists?

The first listed price was reduced to £8???. But it ended with 2 bids not reaching the reserve. It has now been re listed with 5 bids so far.
Re: 1966 Morris Minor with genuine 2570 miles discovered
Strangely - there is no way to ask the seller a question ??? And there are to be 'no test drives' ??? I was going to ask if it had been re-sprayed, because it DEFINITELY looks like 2k paint to me. It has that 'false sheen' (I dunno how else to describe it) of 2k paint. I rather suspect the car has perhaps done decent miles in an earlier life - and then has been 'renovated' in 1988 and the speedo reset - and since then of course the annual mileage is well documented.

You just click on "ask a question" if you really want to - the same as any other ebay listing. He says he won't sell the car unless it reaches his price but has not put a reserve(??!) so I assume he'll have a mate "bidding" and it probably won't sell.
As I've said before, it looks a very nice car but has plainly had quite a bit of work done during its life and the mileage claim seems doubtful.

When I tried to ask there was simply a message saying that 'due to the number of messages etc etc - he has no time to answer' The only comment there is indeed about 'paying' for the car. All looks a bit fishy to me....

Not behaviour designed to seduce the discerning buyer is it. Might be a good time to let someone else snatch this fantastic bargain.
