parcel shelf/front of shelf bar/series 2/round heater fixing
Can someone explain to me what the 1955,series 2 parcel shelf and front bar looks like and how its fitted to a 1955 series 2.Seen lots of different patterns of shelf and have bought a new bar that i now find is 2 inches too long! Also a round black Smiths heater needs to be fitted.[came with the car] This has 2 fixing positions, one at the top & one at the bottom,The top one was fitted to the car and the heater was just hanging on that! The car had no parcel shelf and no front bar fitted,so do i pressume the bottom heater fixing bolt fastens to the parcel shelf front bar? Does it sound as if i have the right heater for my series 2? Finally,is there a active series 2 group in the club? If so,how do i contact them and do they have any webb clubspace where i can meet up with them? Thanks for any info,Stan

Hi Stan, welcome to the messageboard!
The shelf fits as you say, 2 screws on the top and then a nut and bolt through the parcel shelf that holds it in place. The metal bar is usually a gold colour to match the steering column and I would think only available second hand. The hardboard bit is readily available, this is it from ESM

If you need n pictures I can take some of my travellers heater.
There is no separate weeb space, there is a register for series 11 saloons and convertible email Paul Robinson

If you remove the panels on either side of the footwells you will see a bracket with a screw thread. This is to support the ends of the parcel shelf bar. You can make new panels from hardboard which will be more robust than the original bits of card

From memory for my '53, fitting the bar, avoiding the steering column and then attaching the heater was damn fiddly. Made worse by your personal positioning in order to get it in place. I think it's one of those run naked around the block celebrating when all suddenly goes into place.
