Pirelli straps

Just browsing the 1000000 site and came across an ad in Autocar (at the time) from Pirelli. It showed a strap on the base of the seat at 90 Degrees to the other six. Although it is some while since I refurbished my seats, I don't remember ever seeing this strap fitted originally.[frame][/frame]

I have a Minor of similar age to your 1000000 and agree that there are no straps at 90degrees on those cars. I don't actually think the picture in the advertisement is of a Minor seat though is it? It also shows only 6 straps running across the width instead of the standard 7. A bit of artistic licence perhaps!

The 2nd picture provided by GBond is of a later Minor 1000 seat. These do indeed have 3 straps at 90degrees - although only 4 across the width, so still 7 altogether. Just a later design change.

Indeed - mine had the criss cross pattern of straps. I believe now a diaphragm is available, and does a better job.

Yes mine's a later model, didn't know about those design changes, it'll be interesting to see what other little details are different when I finally get around to restoring the '63.

Not convinced by the rubber diaphragm - I find myself bobbing up and down in my seat. Might go back to straps!

I have never liked the pirelli straps. They stretch and then sag and invariably result in sest cover damage as a consequence. I have rebuilt 6 seats now all with standard seat webbing using the original metal fittings. It takes some time but gives a far more satisfying result that seems to last.
