Help identifying disc brakes

Hi,

Can anyone help me identify which disc brakes i have fitted to my car. I bought it with them already fitted. I do have an original receipt for their fitting from 1996 but it does not mention marina/ford etc. I'm assuming marina, but cant positively ID them. The disc brakes fitted to your Minor are Marina/Ital with the standard Lucas/Girling calipers.
Most likely a Grumpy's kit of parts used.

Whilst you can replace the caliper piston seals no attempt should be made to split the callipers.
They are factory assembled and it does state categorically on the Lucas Girling Service Kit/Instructions K225/5....'DO NOT SEPERATE THE TWO HALVES OF THE CALIPER' (capitals are Lucas Girling not mine).
The part number of the caliper service kit is Lucas Girling SP26971.
If you need replacement caliper pistons they are available in either normal or stainless steel from:

I have often separated Cooper S calipers (also 'not to be separated') - and had no difficult putting them back together.... Spot of Loctite on the bolts. The hubs on your disc brakes don't seem to have the studs re positioned - so are you running Marina wheels? Is it possible they are Spridget hubs/discs?

The wheels seem to be the same size and look as my other Morris so i would say standard Morris wheels.

I really dont know about the hubs etc because ive only ever owned a standard car before. Its a mystery

to me.

My advice for what it is worth is do not separate the caliper halves. There is absolutely no need to disturb the seals located between the two halves.
There is a high probability that the seals will leak when re-assembled.
The only seals that possibly need to be replaced are the piston and dirt seal and they are both easy to replace.
As regards the hubs you may well have the ESM Marina 4" PCD hubs fitted which do not have the repositioned wheel studs as per the original Grumpys arrangement.

If you have the Grumpys arrangement you will see the insert head on the rear of the wheel stud flange as per those fitted to my Minor.
Looking closely at your photo you appear to have the repositioned studs as there looks to be the insert heads as per my photo
below.

They do look like yours Phil - but not a trace of the 'repositioning' on the outer face. It beats me why Leyland couldn't just have stuck with the 4" PCD used commonly at that time.

As I thought - the studs have been repositioned from the 3.75" PCD of the Marina to the 4" PCD of the Minor.
If you look closely you can see the repositioning sleeves/inserts.
A photo of the rear of the stud flange as per my photo above would fully confirm.

Ah yes - the little half-moon is showing in that picture where the studs have been moved.
