Hello!

first - I hope that you understand what I´m trying to tell :oops:

Yesterday was a great day for me - a big big step forwards to rebuild my engine!

All work was done completely by the company yesterday and the best - I was able to watch it and wait for the completion.
Great work and huge equipment. The block was drilled, the crankshaft was reviewed in parallel, with no damage, no imbalance as new said the boss!! Then the running surfaces were polished.

The cylinder head had to be planned. After drilling also block was planned. Then all the parts were at 80 ° in a large dishwasher. At last, the cylinders were honed. They did a great job and I had to pay just £ 240 for all work incl VAT. I think that was a really good price for 4 Hours of work and machines. I made some fotos.

Yesterday evening all the parts are bare metall without any old oil and colour because of staying in the washer. First the parts got a fresh coat of BMC green und after drying all the bare metal surfaces got a coat of Ballistol.

And today's early Christmas! The package of ESM has arrived and in many cases and countless bags! :lol: tonight I'm going to take a close look and sort the entire parts!

Good job - it's going to be 'like new' when finished. Perhaps not your original plan - but should be worth it in the long run.

Disaster!!!!!!! I have a broken piston ring and do not know how it happened ?!
Whether I have the piston touched too hard when fitting to the con rod ... or somehow gave him a blow. I dont know, but it is horrible. :cry:

Now I need a cigarette and two cold beer! Good night and I hope you understand :roll:

Bu99er...are you not using a ring compressor? Or did this break before you tried to push it down the bore?

Just preparing everything for tomorrow then I get the compressor. Tomorrow in the afternoon I planed to to get out the worn engine, get of the parts I need for the rebuild ... that WAS the plan

How do the broken ends look, are there any dark areas?
I broke a ring when fitting it to a piston, it had a small inclusion, probably a speck of slag, the ring was replaced when I pointed it out.

No look back - allways forwards.
A set new piston rings is on its way to germany. #

Dismantling of "Miss Marple" - tomorrow a buddy will come and put the motor lifter with and will help me. Today I dismantled everything and all screws and cables removed - ready for the next step to lift out the engine. I will report - ready for today!

That oil ring should be fitted first - from the top - not from the bottom. Then the compression rings - all from the top. And be sure to spread the ring gaps evenly round the piston.

Hi Guys,

a quick question:

Where should sit this metal ring - I do not know. With the timing chain there was a ring and even with the secure set :o
I hope I do not have to unscrew everything again!

New piston rings arrived yesterday - all pistons now in place without damage, all screws are tightened and secured, duplex is in place ...

The metal ring is the crankshaft pulley bolt / starter dog locking washer Pt No: 12A398.
After you have tightened the crankshaft pulley bolt / starter dog - you knock one side into the pulley recess and the other up against the crankshaft pulley bolt / starter dog.
I take it that you did recess the two countersunk screws that came as part of the duplex kit.
The felt seal is the earlier type of timing chain cover seal and can be discarded.

Thank you :lol: but it´s not the secure lock 12A398 No: 4[frame]Image[/frame] this ring is more shaped like a bowl - I enlarged the photo cutout -

OK the felt seal I will not use. Yes, the two countersunk screws were in the set and they are fixed.

It could be a Chinese attempt of copying the oil thrower (part no. 7)-use your original and bin the repro.

i think it's the earlier oil thrower that goes with the felt type seal

The original flat locking washer (Pt No: 1G1319) with tang appears now to be obsolete and the locking washer as supplied now appears to be the norm.
I have searched the usual suppliers and they all picture the locking washer (Pt No: 12A398) in question.
martin418 - The earlier oil thrower (Pt No: 2A1015) for the felt seal (Pt No: 2K7140) is concave and much larger (the same OD as the flat oil thrower ring) and the item in question is definably not the oil thrower ring.
