New vacuum unit fitted and a new hose to the carb.
Timing set as per the last post and does seem to be running well, all she needs now is a road test once I get the front bumper back on when the valence is sprayed.

Re: Ignition timing
Good news. You can 'tweak' as required when you road test, but you know you won't be causing any damage. As BMC said, most important is that max advance isn't silly, I.e beyond something in the order of 32 degrees with no vacuum connected for testing purposes, as that is where any damage would be likely to occur when the engine is working hard.

Re: Ignition timing
Well a month on, all jobs finished and it was time for a maiden voyage yesterday afternoon, a few circuits of the village not too far from home should something happen. Other than some hesitation in the lower gears and being a bit flat all went very well.
Advanced the timing by a couple of degrees this morning and we are all good, quite lively for a new tight engine and no hesitation. Did a gentle 11 miles and all running well. No oil leaks as well which I am well pleased about.
I shall run her like that for while, let things do the initial settle in and recheck, but we are on the road

Re: Ignition timing
Thanks, going well, did a 42 mile run this morning round the back roads on a very pleasant spring morning down here, perfect for a run out. Did not miss a beat on the whole run, and driving like a Minor should.
Amazed at the difference a rear suspension overhaul has made, and running with 40 weight oil in the dampers front and rear.
Whipped one of the plugs out a while ago and a nice light brown colour as well, so we really are looking good.
