Steering Gaiters

Is it worth me replacing the tired looking original gaiters? They're perished but still holding together. Cars been sat for over 30 years. Heard the new ones split quickly. Are the ESM ones any good?

I would change them only a matter of time before they fail. usually the day before the MOT. I fitted the ESM ones a couple of years back and they seem to be lasting.

There was a topic on this a while ago and the OP reported that these gaiters were much better than the ones available from our usual suppliers. I saved the link

Thank you. It's in my nature to replace them but if the new ones only last a year due to poor quality what's the point if the others arnt leaking. Thanks il add them to the list.

Hence why I'm gonna do it whilst it's tipped over. I struggle with my old MG Maestro ones. Had to buy a universal one for one side. Thanks. Might just order the ESM ones then as that brings it up to the free postage. Thank you.

Unless ESM will vouch for the fact that theirs are from a different source to those sold by other suppliers, I really wouldn't bother replacing the old ones while they''re not leaking. Otherwise, expect it to become an annual job needed for each MoT...

The ones in the link from Trickydicky are good. I fitted them a couple of years ago and they are really good quality.

Thanks was thinking about those in the link earlier. Just got my truion seals from Declan today. So i just aswell get decent ones, only cost slighty more. Also getting some polybushs form ESM unless adviced overwise.

It's not a difficult job to renew the gaiters - assuming you have a ball joint splitter - no more than 30 minutes each side - including any jacking up/wheel removing etc etc. Seriously - my Trav failed it's MOT on a tiny tiny hole in a gaiter and they were amazed I was back for the retest 30 minutes later!
