hi all,

i firstly put the new rotor head on as the old one looked in terrible shape - tried to start up and no dice at all. then took the old coil off and replace with the new, with the old king lead and started up first time with a bit of choke. As the king lead seemed a bit loose and also worse for wear i then replaced it with a new one that i also bought.

on the coil, doesn't sound good on lucas reliability and will definitely buy a bosch one as a backup - unless anyone can recommend another alternative?

liammonty - do you have a link/model number of the bosch coil?

There's a few original Lucas coils on ebay, might be worth it to get one of those. There's used and NOS, but the latter are much pricier.

Hi Dudload - try this link.

http://www.veewee.co.uk/index.php/parts ... per+68+-79

Veewee (in the link) is the part of GSF that supplies bits for aircooled VWs, by the way!

you know what, I'd now put the old coil back on,and try it,nothing to lose, everything to gain,it could have been just simple connection to coil problems,if it still fails to start then throw old coil out.if ok keep the NEW very poor quality coil,as a spare in the boot as a get you home item. It will fail very quickly, they are absolute rubbish.

Good plan - I do think it's a good idea to carry a KNOWN GOOD spare coil in the car - easily swapped and will quickly eliminate the coil as the suspected source of a problem. You may simply have disturbed/corrected a connection at the Delco coil when you swapped to the Lucas. Delco are normally very reliable.

for decent ignition parts , use accuspark or distributer doctor .they do a red high performance coil which is what you need for your moggy . ive fitted 2 of there electronic ignition systems and found them to be totally reliable .
