Bleeding Brakes

Post by sirrom »

I have replaced my front wheel cylinders as they were starting to stick.
The new cylinders are in and I have bled the brakes using the pedal pump open and close bleed value and have also tried keeping the tube in a bottle with brake fluid and opening the bleed valve and pump pedal until no air bubbles come out. It has a very low pedal but will pump up very quickly after two or three pumps. Once you have a reasonable pedal you can hold your foot on the pedal and it stays at the same level. As soon as you take your foot off - low pedal again.
I started bleeding LR, then RR, then LF, and RF

Any suggestions on way forward or which is the better way to bleed.

thanks

It could be the flexy hoses have collapsed inside and not allowing fluid through. This would be a symptom of your old cylinders appearing to stick as well.

Seconded. Even if you did it when you fitted them initially, they often ned adjusting up again when they centre after the first few presses on the pedal.

its the classic. Air in system.................. long travel, soft pedal and no effect on pumping

adjustment pumps up hard once shoes are up against the drums. and holds.

Err, that's not what I read in the post! OP says the pedal firms up after a few pumps.

With 'air' there is usually more of a sinking feeling - and we are assured the brakes have been bled to death anyway!

Sounds similar to extensive problems I (and a few others) gave had. Think he needs to prime the rear brake cylinders and what seemed to work best for me was to raise rear of the car and have a wooden beam pressed on the brake pedal overnight,
