Hi Guys,
Is anyone able to post a pic or two of the dizzy on an A+. I picked up an engine minus the dizzy. I grabbed a dizzy from a 1300 landcrab, it engages the dog ok, and clamps fine. But it still looks like earlier model.
Thanks grant.

I don't think the Landcrabs used the A+ engines/dizzys. Do you have a picture of the Landcrab dizzy we can look at?

Thanks for that Cam.
The landcrab I grabbed it out of was a std A series.
Sorry I don't have a digital camera. However I dizzy cap looks the same. But the clamp is definitely not like that.
I'm wondering whether a B-series dizzy is the same as an A+? - The place I've been rummaging, had a couple of B-Series engines lying around.
Once again - many thanks.

Well thats a new one to me I thought the Landcrabs in their smallest forms (1800cc) were only fitted with `B` series engines, by Landcrab you do mean an Austin/Morris 1800 not an Austin/Morris 1100/1300 which is a different car.The landcrab I grabbed it out of was a std A series.
Cheers

Umm........ well, sort of. I have a 45D4 fitted to my 1300 A+ and 1800 B series (MGB engines). Both use the same points, cap & rotor arm, but I'm not 100% sure about the drive. The clamps are different so I'd say they were different units.

Landcrabs down under, generally refer to 1100 & 1300 (ADO16).Kevin wrote:Well thats a new one to me I thought the Landcrabs in their smallest forms (1800cc) were only fitted with `B` series engines, by Landcrab you do mean an Austin/Morris 1800 not an Austin/Morris 1100/1300 which is a different car.

Hello Forbesq,
the Austin\Morris 1800 got the nickname landcrab from the rally boys when BL rallied them, because of the need to run them sideways.. It was never applied to the 1100\1300.
Although 45D distributors (and all the other series of lucas distributors) look similar they are usually completely different inside regarding advance figures and advance spring strengths and are tuned to specific engines. They can usually be made to fit different applications if you have some workshop skills, by altering the cam stop to vary maximum advance although you need to know the setting for your engine. Springs will not be so critical. By the way vacuum advance units are also 'tuned' for a particular engine. Just keep your foot hard down and that won't apply.
