Engine and Petrol Tank Storage

Can't find anything searching the site. I am after advice on how best to store and Engine and Petrol Tanks. Both are spare I am keeping.

The engine seems to be in good condition but not sure who to store it. I am going to turn it as often as I remember ut wanted to know what sort of oil I should put down the bores?

With the Petrol tanks should I store it in the loft as its dryer than the garage? Also should I clean it out? Someone has suggested swilling it out with metal ready (from frost) then let it dry before storing it?

Not sure what the automotive equivalent is, but I use a product called 'fogging oil' which is designed for marine outboard motors, which by their nature are often left sat in the garage for months at a time. It is specifically for squirting down the spark-plug holes to prevent corrosion in the bores. Its readily available from any chandlers or online. Not sure if its worth spending extra if you don't own any outboard motors though, maybe others will say normal motor oil is fine?

You can store the engine where you like as long as you leave oil in the sump and pour some engine oil down each bore, only a drop mind. Make sure you leave the spark plugs in and block off the inlet and exhaust with lint free rag it will be fine. As you say turn it by hand every so often once every two months will be fine. With the tank swill with some paraffin then tip it out then mix some paraffin with engine oil at 50/50 and swill that round the tank tip it out and leave with the neck open in a dust free environment. The paraffin will slowly evaporate and leave a film of oil behind protecting the inside from rust. When put back into use the petrol will dilute it back off again.

Block the cylinder head ports with oil soaked rags. I sealed my spare tank off with a plastic bag over the filler cap and painted it externally.
