Re: Rear suspension
The plates with the shocks supports come along occasionally on eBay. In fact ESM may have secondhand ones, the top and bottom plates a bit more difficult.

Re: Rear suspension
I would be interested in purchasing qty 4 of axle locating plate item No: 17, Pt No: ACA5202 in the parts list illustration posted by Les - if anyone has some in 'as new' condition or know of a supplier where they could be purchased I would be very pleased.
I have searched the usual suppliers and they are not listed. Nothing on 'e' bay at the moment.
Those plates will make for a very positive axle location.

Re: Rear suspension
Maybe the answer on an LCV that's not being used for it's original 'Commercial' purpose is to simply use the saloon parts for a slighly smoother ride......

Re: Rear suspension
To be honest I think the plates offer rigidity rather than making the ride hard. I think the rubber alternative gives little in terms of smoothness, as the actual springs supply the 'give'.
Phil, if you can't find any I can supply measurements for these plates if required, you could then let in a piece of bar for the bossing and then drill the hole.

Did you have a look at that link to the pickup parts list I put on here? Any comments?
I have attached bmc's quote above because the link shows a similar set up as suggested by bmc and used on the saloons.
Many thanks for the offer of the dimensions. I may take you up on that offer if I get nowhere.

Re: Rear suspension
Sorry Phil, didn't appear to get notification of your final post on the diagrams thread, just looked back and have now seen them. Will go back and open the links and have a look, thank for sending them.
Still mystified as to who posted the original link!

Have you seen this Phil. It's a job to be sure if those plates are solid or not but they look like the lcv ones.
Ps. Actually I'm now having doubts, the bosses don't look big enough in diameter

Les
Thanks for the link.
Looking closely I believe that the spring pads are either poly or rubber unfortunately.
I have on the shelf several sets of rear spring eye bushes in both polyurethane (various grades) and rubber and a couple of sets of spring pads in both polyurethane and rubber.
Currently a combination of Minor Mania hard plastic bushes and rubber bushes in the spring eyes and chassis mounts. The spring pads are at the moment rubber.
I also have sufficient spare J4 front suspension bushes (Pt No: FMK5137) to fit (shortened of course to 1 & 13/16") into both the spring eyes and the chassis and I am toying with the idea of using them in the spring eyes instead of the current set up.
If those solid pickup spring plates were to be fitted between the spring and axle I consider they would reduce any twist in the leaf spring when the car is been driven hard round a corner and act a bit like an anti-roll bar but without the anti-roll bar if you see what I mean.

Re: Rear suspension
Yes on closer inspection, I think they would be rubber or such. My mistake! When the assembly is bolted up it is very solid, so could be a worthwhile mod but don't know how the shocks are arranged on your saloon or maybe the steel plates would be a straight replacement to your set up.

Re: Rear suspension
The plates with boss Pt No: ACA5202 (item No: 17 in the diagram) should be a straight swop with the rubber/poly spring plate.
The swop will not interfere with the damper mountings fitted to my Minor as they are of the telescopic type and attached to the saloon bottom spring plate via a additional drop bracket.
Unfortunately the van and pickup spring/damper mount bottom plate (item No: 30 in the diagram) is orientated the wrong way for a saloon and the damper bottom mounting point would then be too high so would not allow any damper movement.
I will keep looking and if I come across any ACA5202 spring pads I will consider fitting them.
The poly spring pads fit much better than the rubber spring pads.

Re: Rear suspension
Yep, those are the plates, you can see how substantial they look. Thanks for the other link, although I have found and downloaded the actual BMC parts manuals for mechanical and body now. Although I have the actual manuals it's nice to have them as files!
