duplex timing chain kit just checking
A lovely shiny new duplex kit arrived today from ESM just checking that the groove in the middle of the camshaft sprocket isn't supposed to have a rubber tensioning ring ??
Re: duplex timing chain kit just checking
That's alright then coz I've not put one in happy to say kit arrived super quick and took 45 mins to fit well done ESM even if the lack of fitting instructions can make people ask silly questions like this one.
Re: duplex timing chain kit just checking
Just wondered what the advantage of this kit is?

The main advantage is that it gets rid of the two rubber tensioning rings and to put simply - having the duplex chain the load on each chain link is halved so overall the chain lasts longer.
Fitting a duplex is a must if fitting a more aggressive camshaft.
The 'A' Plus engine simplex chain with tensioner can be fitted instead of the Minor set up but if purchasing new all of the parts required to install it works out much more expensive than the duplex.

If you fit the simplex chain tensioner kit you will need a new timing cover to accommodate the tensioner as pictured below.[frame]

The old side valve 918 cc engine has a duplex cam drive. The simplex was a definte 'economy' move by Austin. Did your 45 minutes fitting include countersinking the two holes ?

Re: duplex timing chain kit just checking
Yep absolute doddle to be fair I countersunk the holes before the kit arrived our local nut and bolt place gave me two Allen headed countersunk bolts free of charge and I think these can probably be tightened more successfully Than the Phillips headed ones that came with the kit.
