Oil in rocker box

Hi. Started the Morris 1098 for the first time this year. No problem at all. I've always thought I've had a noisy tappet so curiously took off the oil filler cap. How much oil should I be seeing. I would have thought oil would be spurting everywhere. There is oil but not as much as I thought. Is this about right ??
