FRONT SCREEN STILL PROBLEMS

I have just had the fourth attempt ,to fit the front screen in .Having bought a new seal from C O H Baines I expected a straightforward job.Three people have now helped me without any luck,someone came this afternoon ,who has 17 Morris Minors,so he is well up on screen fixing.After several tries he gave up saying that the screen seemed to be too large for the opening.I bought the glass off Ebay as it was unmarked. I found to start with ,the new rubber took a terrific effort to fit it onto the glass I have smeared the rubber with Vaseline in an attempt to help.But the problem is ,when offering it up to the car it does not sit in far enough,to even start to pull the lip over.I have been in touch with COH Baines ,who said that they have not had problems .So I think the first step,is to measure the screen glass ,to check it is the correct one.If someone would be kind enough to measure a spare screen they have ,I would be very grateful.I need the height and the length measuring over the curve,in either Metric or "Christian" ,this will at least rule out one item .Happy Christmas to all members and may your screens fit well Len

You could try to offer the screen up to the aperture without the rubber, it should have a gap of a few mm all the way round. You will need someone inside and out to do this.

Most of the new rubbers don't fit anywhere near especially the quarter light ones

We have just fitted the windscreen back in our 1970 Traveller the rubber came from ESM it was very tight fit over the screen once the bottom lip was in place not really any problem fitting the screen
Done a couple over the last few weeks the worst part of fitting was the plastics chrome strip very tight to fit even using washing up liquid

I will measure a spare screen in the morning and post on hear.

It's been said before- but you should never use washing up liquid - it's full of salt and very likely to get under the rubber and cause corrosion....

Yes I've found their stuff well made, my screen rubber fitted ok, all screens look like they won't go in but surprisingly they all seem to.

i once bought a good used screen at a auto jumble looked like a minor one ...was told it was a minor one
when i tried to fit it it was just to big. showed it to a mate he said it could be a austin 1100 wolesley 1100 etc

As above this is the first time you have mentioned that you bought a different screen. I think we all assumed you were having trouble fitting the rubber to the original screen. Do you still have that screen? If so measure it against the one you are trying to fit.

Is the new screen a laminated one as sometimes these can be cut a little larger than the original ones as well? I have used new rubber from both ESM and Bull Motif, and fitted them to both original and laminated screens. They need to be warmed before fitting but they do fit. I think your problem may lie with the new glass.

Hi Len, just measured my spare screen and it is 14. 5/8 inch high and 43. 15/16 inch wide. it appears to be slightly narrower at the top . This is a screen removed from a 63 pickup.

A friend brought me a screen to fit to his pick up, all nicely polished up and ready to fit. Eventually got the rubber on and as soon as we put it up to the body realised it was a slightly different screen, it was a bit tapered towards the bottom which wasnt noticeable until it was in the window aperture. Very frustrating

I have just measured the scren and it is as it should be .So it can be left untill after Christmas now.Happy Christmas to everyone and may the New year have less problems Len
