Wiring Loom How-to

Post by g_land »

Folks,

Is there any good guide on re-fitting a wiring loom, I got a new one during the week and nothing came with it. Is there a good book out there that goes through this is good detail. I have 4 different books on the minor but none of them really cover the topic or if there do its not in enough detail to do the job.

Regards,

George

Well, I find first feeding the mass of wires through the bulkhead for the dash equipment helps, then the wires to the back of the car (along the chasis leg). Then the underbonnet wires, then just couple everything up.

Hello George,

refer to your wiring diagram for the colour codes of the individual wires, this is a big help in giving a position that the cables should go to. You will have some, such as the green wires that come from the fuse block where there are several wires the same. I think that those all actually connect to the same terminal on the fuse block.
Just take your time and work logically, it is not as daunting a task as you may think.

Well, what do you actually want to know? If you have the correct colour codes and work methodically as has been mentioned, it's not too difficult at all.

The other obvious place to look is in another Minor ! Ask any fellow owners if you can look under their bonnets, at least you'll then get the general layout right. Also photos in the various books (Ray Newell's for example!) will give a guide. As others say, once you start it's all sort of falls into place. The loom has to reach the components, and it has to follow the line of clips that hold it in place/

hi
well i have just re wired my van and i will say that once you get into it it all falls into place, yes the first place to start is to feed all the bulkhead wires in, then fuel pump, then rear.
make sure not to trap any wires though.
also i snipped off some of the old loom leaving the old wires on the connectors and labeled a few.
