LED Lighting (non auto!)
Does anyone know if 2D LED lamps can just be substituted directly in normal 'mains' 2D bulkhead fittings? We have an interest in a flat - in a block - where the Factor wants to renew all the 2D bulkheads, with new LED bulkheads, at a cost of ~£3000. We spent almost this amount just over a year ago re-lamping and fitting new battery packs (they are maintained emergency lights on stairwells) - but of course already they say they have failed the 3 hour test... Any help/advice - or source of new 'inexpensive' LED maintained bulkheads will be much appreciated. Roy

Re: LED Lighting (non auto!)
I'd be inclined to stall for as long as possible! The price of LEDs seems to be coming down quite quickly. Last year we upgraded to LEDs throughout the house. Very good they are too, but the price would be about 10% lower now. Interestingly the builders merchants matched the best internet price ( on like for like). The 20,000 hour life is a huge advantage...no stepladders to change bulbs or batteries, and the running costs are low,of course.

Apparently they can be retrofitted Roy, here is a link, hope it helps.

Thanks for that link Richard - that's a big help. And yes - prices are falling all the time, and the most recent ones in Poundland are an absolute bargain! Especially the GU10 type. However these emergency lights need to be actioned right away (Elf & Softy you know...some of the 1 year old lamps are only lasting 150 minutes when the power goes off...!). This looks like a less expensive alternative. There are '2D' lamps at just over £2 each - but I guess they can only be used in dedicated bulkheads. What a great forum this is ! Thanks both. Roy

Failing after just over a year is very bad, i would argue the merchandisable quality is poor, I think for what you have spent three years would be a fair time before you had problems, If its a Factor/ lease building i would argue the products are bad and that they should absorb this or contribute to fixing it, Also maybe not much use now but if you ever pay for anything through a credit card over £100 and below £30,000 then you have the consumer credit act on your side and it cover goods or service,
brief outline http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/ ... credit-act
I had a TV and after 14 months it failed out of warranty, But my credit card got me a refund under section 75 of the consumer credit act as the TV should have been expected to last at least 5 years, even though i had paid my card off it was still covered,
i now pay on card when ever i can for goods. sorry to waffle but it might me of some hlep to others.
